In this millennium, 2100, 2200, 2300, 2500, 2600, 2700, 2900 and 3000 will not be leap years, but 2400 and 2800 will be. The years that are divisible by 100 but not 400 are known as "exceptional common years". By this rule, the average number of days per year will be 365 + 1/4 - 1/100 + 1/400 = 365.2425.

The general rule is that the year must be divisible by 4. HOWEVER if it is a multiple of 100, then it must be divisible by 400 to be a leap year.

Merely being divisible by 4 isn't sufficient to be a leap year. That means the leap years are: 1852, 2000, 2040, 4000.

divide each by 4 and the ones without remainders are leap years: 1800, 1852, 1900, 2000, 2040, 3000, and 4000
plus, 4 goes evenly into 100 so any number that factors to 100 will be a leap year.
