our thermostat is alll the way up past the red. and well im not a car person but our car is not acting funny at all the engine is even cool like right when i turn it on the gauge slowly goes up all the way. what could be the problem. is it just that the thermostat is messed up or what plz help. scared for my car

sounds like the sending unit for the temperature guage. Depending on the car it should be somewhere on the intake

Hi,
Mostly the problem with the temp sensing unit.A radiator water will not get heated within 10 secs.So that it will be problem, with temp sensing unit.
Please mention your car make,model for a better understanding of the answeres.

From your description, it sounds like it is the temp sending unit. That is the sensor that sends the gauge the info on what to read. Have it checked. good luck.

if you leave your car over night and go out start it up .
if the gauge goes up to hot whit hen 3-10 sec you have a temp sensor problem.
