C. The Native Americans

The Native Americans were the first to use tobacco and praised it as a medicine. Sir John Hawkins, an English explorer obeserved it and brought it back to England and introduced it there. Although Columbus' men brought some back first, Hawkins is often credited with introducing it to England. As far as the first French man, it was Jean Nicot (that's where the word nicotine comes from).
