Emawee, my daddy had the same discussion with me this summer and so far I have survived. It is not that bad really, and I am making my own money and get to work at an EXTREMELY fashionable clothing store too.

Also my boss is nearly as sarcastic as I am, although a lot of people hate their bosses.

Thank you and good day.

Hey, I'm 15. It's good experience. And you don't have to have one everyday of the week. Try once a week or 3 days a week, etc. first. It's fun, you meet new people, and it looks good later on your resume. Also, some of the money that you earn now will go into your medical and other things for when you are elderly.

The money every 2 weeks or so doesn't hurt, either. Save it up or go shopping, whatever you want to do with it.

It's nice to have a little change now and then...

But if you are strongly opposed to having a job, then you need to sit down with your dad and ask him why you HAVE to get a job. Don't whine or complain or anything; just come to him like an adult and discuss it with him. You can also mention child labor laws lol. That's what they are there for. No child should be forced to work if they don't want to.

well doing ur chores if u get money from it. I'd suggest getting a job, because u'll need the money by that time, and u shouldn't have 2 worry for a year anywayz!

A job can be a very useful thing, for two reasons.
1. U get money so u can do fun things like going mini golfing or to the movies. If u get a boyfriend or some circle of friends it'll cost at least some money.
2. It's a useful social area. You might get to work with people that u like to hang around, n u get 2 do it a lot.

Getting a job will keep you busy and you'll get money every week or every 2 weeks. Plus you will need a job anyway when your out of high school and this experience will help you get a better job when you are 18. Plus you can learn the responsibility that your parents do in taking care of your every need and you'll learn to be a hard worker and you'll appreciate how hard your parents work to provide for you and put food on the table.

Umm . . . what's wrong with a summer job? You earn money and it gives you a chance to learn what it's like to work, how to get along with co-workers and bosses, etc. All valuable skills! At 15, though, you might be somewhat limited as to what kind of jobs you can get -- most places don't look at younger than 16, but there are some small stores, that will hire a year younger. Plus, at 15, you will still need transportation, instead of being able to drive yourself.

Why don't you want to? Just curious - both of my kids were dying to get summer jobs, because they wanted the independence of earning their own money and not being dependent on me for an allowance.

Don't work in pizza or any kind of food service, its not a kind industry. Plus minimum wage here in Michigan has gone up to @$7 an hour, and that includes minors. Jobs can be fun, you just need to like it. I think tho, that as soon as you said hell no to your dad, he put on the mach dad cape and changed his mind from 'youre growing up next year and you could get a nice easy job,' to, ' dammit kiddo, if I have to work then so do you.' If you told him you don't know what to do for a job, he'd probably 1. help you find one, or 2. give up on the whole thing.

I wouldn't look at this in a negative way. You're going to have to work at some point or another.

I mean think of some of the perks before saying no:

- This will be YOUR cash - no one elses
- Spend your paychecks however you like
- More money to go out with friends and shopping
- People will realize that you're more responsible
- You'll make new friends possibly

- You may find something you really enjoy doing in the process (id est - babysitting job leads to you realizing that you love being around kids and want to work with them in the future).

Try not to stress out. If you're really against the idea - perhaps you can work out a compromise where you work only Part-Time or offhand jobs.

Perhaps you can also suggest that you do housework and extra chores for money instead.

;)

You can always try to bribe your dad with better grades as well.

EmaWeeE,first let me say I hope you learn to appreciate your parents while they are still here..I would give almost anything to be able to talk to my parents and to share a meal with them again would be heaven. Both my parents are dead and I'm glad I have good memories to help fill that void. I agree with your dad that a job is something you will be able to do next summer. You will learn valuable lessons in responsibility, co-operation and accountability.A job also gives you your own money.I think people have a greater appreciation for things when they have to work for it.I am surprised that at your age, even someone who is spoiled, does not want to be given more grown up responsibilty.I don't think you want to be considered a kid all your life and for most people getting a job is part of growing up.Try think of activities you are interested in and try match those interests with a job.Take care.

Gasp! A job?! Oh the horror. I'm kiddding. I am SO ready for next summer so I can have a job. Thinkkk about it. You will have your OWN money. You can save up and buy something expensive or just spend all your money whenever the heck you want to, and your parents have no say in it what so ever=]]

What else are you going to do all summer? Go to the mall? Who's going to take you? You're Dad won't without gas money! The point I'm making is that if you aren't in school, then you need to be at work. It's time for your three month long paid vacations to end!
