It's got like 140 character classes you can choose from and several races you can be. It's true 3-d graphics and is FREE to play! (Screenshots http://www.rubiesofeventide.com/screenshots.html )
Not like FLYFF or rapplez where if you want to progress you have to buy things out of their store with real money.. there's no hidden agenda, it's actually free.
And the graphics are much better than the other games I've tried like runescape and maplestory. Some people are easy to please I guess.. they play those :)
Anyway.. there is also several different types of crafting and mining, etc. Lots to do and places to explore. It's a reall fun game.
There aren't a bunch of idiots on it either .. well, depending on the server you choose anyway (the "anything goes" servers are just that) since there are constantly GMs online that moderate the chat, etc.

Well most games these days can be downloaded, so you could download World of Warcraft if your willing to pay for it. (Not for college students, it will ruin your grades)
Though the only free thing I can think of is Runescape. (sucks)

i play ffxi which you have to pay for, it is fun but the monthly payment is a pain. there are free ones out there. i played fly for fun for a while. http://flyff.gpotato.com/ its free but they try to get you to pay real money for special holliday costumes and the such. its very nice for free but to me the people who played didnt seem that friendly so i went back to my ffxi. my sister plays some game called Maple Story which is supose to be a rpg but i havent given it a look see, but she likes it.
