yes its that bad, there are some cars that wont even move out of their own tracks with rear wheel drive, the mustang is one of them, and there are lots of others also, but they are bad, they just wont get any traction, and are subject to go side ways with you at any time, but if your looking for one that will get better traction, get a front wheel drive car at least, they will go good in the snow,or bad weather, good luck hope this helps.

It all depends on your speed and confidence in snow. For the best practice find an empty parking lot and see how your car reacts to sudden maneuvers like starts stops sudden turns etc. Knowing you vehicle will help a lot. You might want to add some extra weight to the trunk to improve traction. I added 240 lbs of sand in bags to the back of my 97 Dakota pick up last year to drive in snow in Montana. But take the time to learn how you car handles in snow first.

No, it is not that bad. A lot of it does depend on what type of car you have. The weight of the engine helps give FWD cars more traction. I have driven rear wheel drive cars most of my life, and I've usually been able to get where I wanted to go. Just make sure that your tires are in good shape. That will make a lot of difference in driving in the snow.

tire chaines will help a great deal. It dependes alot on how much the vehicle weighs, id stay away from wide tires. If you are going to live in snow country my best advice is to drive slowly and give lots of room in front of you

weight is the answer to this question. if it is a light car with rwd you will go nowhere. heavier cars or added weight will go and go and go
