i put a tampon in right before i went in the pool..
should i change it as soon as i am done swimming? or is it ok to keep in?
i am not new to my period lol. i have had it for almost 10 years now.. but i never really went swimming with a tampon before this summer.

You don't have to change it when you get out, just change it when you normally would. The tampon sits high enough in the vagina, water won't get up there. The string will absorb some water because it's outside but not enough to saturate your tampon.

Tampons are good for about 4-6 hours.

Because of leakage, I would change it when you get out if it's within the first few days when your flow tends to be heavier. If it's towards the end I wouldn't be as concerned with it leaking. In my experience, it tends to get wet or something so I always leaked after I was dried off. Better to be on the safe side, than be embarrased!!!

You should be ok for a while after getting out of the pool. Change it as recommended though.

just to be safe, i would take it out right when you get out, just so you dont risk getting T.S.
