Men wore them then but I don't believe they were the first.

Men have worn earrings for thousands of years. Was a convenient way of having ready cash in gold. Kinda like when I wore penny loafers with quarters in them. ( at the time that got you a gallon of gas and a pack of smokes)

Possibly the resurgence of earrings may have started then but many men in the Navy during WW1 and WW2 and Vietnam had earrings since in the navy, this was accepted to a degree in modern times. You'd also be surprised at the number of Navy men that wore beards during WW2. There were some regulations but it was not unknown.

For a short time, wearring an earing in one ear meant sexual preference, but now it just seems to be a fashion statement.

Kinda like Tattoos.
