I agree with you that grey is from GB. I've always spelled it gray. And color to me is c o l o r, not colour, another Britain word. Makes you wonder why such words are different when we pronounce them the same way. Oh, I almost forgot.. favorite and favourite.

Contrary to the first answer, I have family members whose last name is Gray, and that response peaked my curiosity enough to look in the phone book and I found a whole bunch of Grays. Anyway, like you, I have seen both used so often that I'm not even sure there is a really a correct one. I do know that Crayola crayons have always spelled it "gray" on gray crayons, and Just For Men haircolor spells it "gray". So if you are talking about color, go with "gray".

Both Spelling's are correct. Gray's Anatomy of the Human Body is spelled.Gray. The ABC TV show is spelled Grey's Anatomy. This particular word can be confusing.

If you are referring to color it's gray, if you are referring to the spelling for a name it's Grey, example Grey's Anatomy
