No one knows

Theories stretch from the ridiculous - UFO activity to the scientific.

I go with the scientific.

It is known there are weak spots in the earths crust under the triangle.

These weak spots sometimes release huge gas bubbles which rise to the surface and reduce the buoyancy of the water, this leads to ships sinking.

The same gas bubbles carry magnetism from deep in the earth and affect navigational instruments.

While none of this has actually been witnessed, at least not by survivors, in the triangle it has been witnessed in other areas of the world and is a well known scientific phenomenon

I can tell you exactly what is happening there, nothing that has not gone on for a long time.

First this region of the sea is heavily travelled by ships and small boats.
First small boats, some are crewed by people who should not be at sea, their loss while tragic is expected.
Ships, not all ships lost in the triangle have stayed there. The collier cyclops for example is off the coast of north carolina.

Funny thing, no jets have been lost there.

Also, you need to understand, that when an area is heavily travelled, accidents are going to happen.

There are many areas that have losses, (triangle if you will on the ocean surface). Also historically, more small aircraft are lost in the united states each year and not found than are lost in the triangle. (that is from the discovery channel).

so what is happening in the triangle, anything you want to dream up. What is really happening, people are traveling and some disappear, read into it what you will.

Nobody really knows, but here are two possibilities.
ONE:large deposits of methane gas, formed by the rotting of ancient forests, may erupt from the ocean floor. In other areas of the world, drilling ships and rigs have been sunk by this gas, which is highly inflammable and also reduces the sea's buoyancy. This gas is lighter than air, so it would rise into the atmosphere. There, it could cause a passing plane to explode or the engines to fail owing to the lack of oxygen.
TWO:a survey by the Seasat satellite in 1978 showed a huge circular depression in the contour of the ocean within the triangle. This suggests that a vast meteorite could have landed therein the distant past. If so, its iron mass could cause navigational instruments to give false readings.

No one knows what happens when planes/ships sail/fly through/over the Bermuda Triangle, except God. There are books and articles that you could read that tells about the Bermuda Triangle, but not why ships/planes disappear. It's just a place where things disappear.

Various factors happen in the triangle. Some is caused by Magnetic anomalies,Methane gas pocket explosion from the ocean, Electrical. Weather or plain stupidity. There is not one set reason for all that happens in the triangle.

if you do similar looking into any equal size area of the earth's oceans, you'll find similar percentages of flights having "stange dissapearances."

Its not the Bermuda triangle thats unlucky. Its the practice of flying over water.

You'll also find that ships have dissapeared in all parts of the oceans... The Bermuda triangle may have a higher incidence of that... because there is still piracy going on in the area.

almost the same thing that happens in the other parts of the ocean.
people see something strange only once in a lifetime of being on the water there.

everything else is just a guess

my favorite guesses are

1. electromagnetic hot spot, causing time to flow incorrectly.
2. ancient city power source under the water.
