It doesn't rotate around the sun.
The Earth revolves around the sun in an elliptical orbit with the sun at one focus. The shortest distance from the Earth to the sun is about 147 million km, the longest distance is about 152 million km - the orbital eccentricity (amount it varies from a perfect circle) is .016. So to most people it would look like a pretty perfect circle if it was drawn to scale so we could see the whole thing. The time to make one orbit relative to the stars is 365.26 days solar days.
The Earth rotates on its axis once in 23 hours, 56 minutes relative to the distant stars.

The Earth rotates on it's axis. Rotate is when it turns. You mean how does it revolve around it's self and it doesn't.

Magnetism - after our present moon ran into our present earth a large chunk of the earths magnetic core went into the moon - possibily through the Sea of Tranquility so it has been going around ever since.
