Look (generally on the bottom) for the SSID and Encryption code for your router. This need to be setup in you wireless connection.
Ensure that you wireless is turned on in the router some are on by default others you will have to turn on manually in the router setup. Note, if you don't have a pc with an ethernet connection to the router, you will have to connect your laptop via a ethernet cable in order to log in to the router setup page. Your router manual should give you all of this info, just read it.

Good Luck

Does the laptop have a wireless adapter built into it? If so, go to Network Connections, locate the wireless connections, and view networks. You should see your router there. Choose that network, click "connect", then disconnect the ethernet cord to test your connection.

I put a similar question into my asksearch engine and it brought up a forum at stormchasers.com of which they discussed it extensively. My husband read through it all, and tried different suggestions to no avail! He is out of town a lot and relies on his internet with his cell phone, but said it still keeps kicking off. Cell phone company said probably phone service is sporadic, and that causes it. I have a pc card on this laptop and it works great. It's an older laptop and no pc card has been made yet for husband's new one. Don't understand that, either! Good luck and will you guys let us know if you find a solution?
