Go door to door. Once you have established a few customers do a good job. Referrals and word of mouth are free advertising. You could make flyer's. Most grocery stores, laundry-mats and convenient stores have poster boards for this purpose and it doesn't cost anything to hang them there.

Yeah I agree with Ashley......... Just starting off you don't really need to try to Advertise. Just go door to door. Try to set good first impressions. It really doesn't matter if you live in a small town. The key is to have repeat costumers. People whom want to have a nice yard should usually get their grass cut once every 2-3 weeks. Depending on the size of the yard, the price for cutting could be anywhere from $10-$50 a pop. Average yards that I try to tackle is worth about $20 around 1/4 of an acre........... good luck this is a good what to get started.

Pick a day when the temperature is through the roof.
Walk up to the hose, your lawn mower with you, When someone answers, say, "I see you lawn needs mowing. It's 95 degrees outside. Want me to do it so you can stay inside where it's air conditioned."
It won't work all the time, but it will work.

A friend and I did it the opposite way, with a snow blower. You want to save money and do it yourself, or save the hassle and have us do it. " If his car was buried in the snow, we had him where we wanted him.

One of the best ways would be to have your parents talk you up with their friends, neighbors, and colleagues when they get a chance. It doesn't have to be obnoxious on their part...if someone talks about lawn maintenance, your parents could say, "My teenager is looking to make some money mowing lawns this summer. Give me a call if you want a hard-working kid!"
