Follow the above link and read up on it. Chemical abortions can be done very early. Vacuum extractions require you to wait until you're 4-6 weeks along--the doctor won't perform the procedure unless he can see the embryo on a sonogram because he doesn't want to leave any tissue behind and cause an infection.
Since these procedures are done in the first trimester, it's highly unlikely that the embryo will feel any pain. (I don't believe they have the ability to process "pain" the way a fully formed fetus would.)
Honestly, I believe it's your choice. Make your own decision without the outside pressure of others in either direction.

it's not partial birth unless you're in the third trimester. There's a debate going on about when a baby can feel. They have brain waves at 10 weeks. I think that counts for something. If you look it up on wikipedia they tell you a lot.
Most abortions are painful afterwards. And even if you don't think you'll regret it, a lot of the time you do. Talk to some people who have had abortions first.

The earliest an abortion can be done is right after conception (within 72 hours). It's called the 'morning after' or abortion pill and can keep the newly fertilized egg from implanting in the uterus.
After that, the early abortions are done with chemicals usually, where a women takes a regimen of high-dosage hormones until the baby dies and is expelled from the body. There is a lot of bleeding and cramping, like having a miscarriage.
The fetus can feel pain very early on. Pain can be detected when pain receptors discharge electrical impulses to the spinal cord and brain. These impulses have actually been measured in fetuses as early as 7 weeks gestation.
You should never base the decision on whether the baby will feel pain, though. The question you should ask yourself is "is this thing inside of me alive?" The answer is YES. And if so, "do I have the right to kill it?" The answer is always NO because no person, not even a mother, has the right to murder another human being.
About Partial Birth Abortions, they are more common than people think. In my state of Kansas an abortionist is being criminally charged for performing them frequently and not for 'life and death' reasons. It is a brutal procedure.
Most abortions are performed between 8 to 20 weeks gestation and depending on how far along the woman is they will either to it chemically or with surgical instruments. The baby must be cut into pieces before being sucked out with vacuum extraction.
Hope this answers your question and gives you some clear guidelines to follow in making an informed and ethical decision

well i have never had an abortion, but i just watched a video on abortion to see what was done, and i must say it was very very sad. from the video i watched, they suck the baby out in pieces, limbs and body, till only the baby's head remains, and they crushed the babies head, and sucked it out as well. i know we are all in different situations, that we must make a decision as to keep the little baby or not, but there are other options as im sure you know. i do not know if the baby feels the pain or not, but i would imaginee so being that it has nerves, and our nerves allow us to feel pain, so id imagin its just the same for an unborn baby. i think that d&c's are still used depending on how much the baby is formed, and how the dr does. i dont want to assume you are going to have an abortion, but i will pray for you, and ask that you have guidence, if it is in fact for you. good luck and i pray that whatever you are going through will get better.

Dear Cora,
Please , please...Chose LIFE...If you don't want the baby just consider giving up for adoption. I have a friend that cries a lot because she hasn't been able to conceive. She would love to have a beautiful little baby to hold. I don't want to offend you but in the Bible there is a quote from God, the maker of all heaven and Earth that says,"Before you were in your Mother's womb...I knew you." How awesome is that? God himself knows us before we are even in the womb of our mothers. So YES, it is a BABY!! A beautiful blessing from God who knew YOUR baby before it was ever in your womb. Your baby has a future and a destiny that God would love for him/her to fufill! Please, please...chose LIFE.
