With the recent cases involving the murdered pregnant Ohio woman and the father who shot his wife and 3 kids in Illinois, why did the Ohio case get so much media coverage as opposed to the Illinois case? Do you think the suspect's race has to do with it?

I don't think so. The Illinois was a murder, straight up. Ohio was a pregnant woman who went missing just days away from giving birth, nobody knew if she or her baby were alive or dead for days, this lead to a manhunt, which always get big coverage.

I think anytime the suspect is a police officer and the victim is a pregnant woman you have all the elements of a Court TV and CNN feeding frenzy.
Couple that with the matter of her being missing, a living child who was a witness, you have all the things the media just won't let go of.
What was really sad was the "police officer" was fired for allowing his pistol to be used for protection in a drug house, but a federal arbitrator got his job back. He even lied about it being stolen when his cousin had it in the drug house.
This guy was a disgrace from the word go and I think he has shamed himself beyond any chance of rehabilitation.
So, I think race was a non factor in this matter, it was a case of a sub-standard loser who lucked out and got lucky with a sympathetic arbitrator and who had the morals of an alley cat.

No, I don't see any racial overtones.

Unfortunately, there are too many men in the US with Abrahamic tendencies who kill their wives and children when life doesn't go well for them.

The case with the philandering police officer had mystery, lurid details, a checkered past, and other details that 'marked' it as a wide distribution issue.

Coupled with the photo of a wholesome, attractive young woman who lived in a nice house, it wouldn't have mattered what the race, age, or other characteristics of the perpetrator of this heinous crime might have been--he is a candidate for widespread loathing and scorn.

I personally hope he rots in jail, and then goes to the scaffold . . . .

I think jaymes made a good point. The Ohio woman was missing at first, therefore it was more mysterious; whereas it was known immediately that the other case was a murder case where no missing people were involved.

You can change the superficial things, but underneath it all, people are still incredibly racist in this country. How many interracial couples are there out there? Would most white girls think of dating anyone outside their own race? Hell no. White girls who date colored guys have a stigma attached to them. You should see the double standard white people have towards people. It's so blatant. Republicans who are minorities should grow a brain, the Republican party is the pro-white party. I was a Republican once, and whenever I supported Republican politics, I got weird looks and was never really accepted. There are still some things about the Republican party I agree with, but I'd never be one because it's racist. OJ never had a chance with the ignorant people in this country. No wonder the economy is going down.

Why did Peterson case get so much attention? Because when a pregnant woman goes missing it's a big deal. People shouldn't shout racism just because the suspect is black! I didn't even know the missing woman's boyfriend was black until he was arrested. I think it became big news because the boyfriend happens to be a cop!

It could have but the victims family also had a lot to do with getting the media involved, people were able to relate to them and that made more people pay attention and he is a cop and she was missing for so long and she was 9 months pregnant

I think an un-born child inside a pregnant women - hits closer to our hearts. I did not think of race,

In Illinois the story revolved around an adult male who wounded himself after killing his family. The central figure was the adult male not an unborn child.
