Sponges are simplest form of multi-cellular animals,.bottom-dwelling creatures which attach to something solid where it can find enough food to grow.

A sponge exists by pumping water through its body. These canals exist to move water through the sponge's body

Because of the above facts, Sponges really take up no space at all, in fact, they spend their life filtering the ocean water thru their bodies and don't actually absorb the ocean water.

the sponge; one of nature's most enigmatic and mysterious little creatures.

Just as deep. In fact, it will be deeper than if it had no rocks. Sponges are not the problem, the rocks are.

The sponge displaces its own weight in water, but most of the weight is water, so there would be no change in levels.
