Found in Eastern U.S. (NC). In person, it's looks light tan with dark brown vertical stripes, and dual-colored tan/dark brown legs. With legs, it's no larger than a pinkie nail. It may be a hunter. I've mostly seen it crawling across the carpet, but once on the wall. It doesn't stick to one floor of the house. When I come within a few inches of it, it runs or jumps toward me. I'm curious because I've never come across one exhibiting such erratic, seemingly aggressive behavior.

It's not easy to tell from the photo - it might be one of the small wolf spiders, but check the back end - if you see two little "tail pipes" (these are two long spinnerets) then it's probably a house spider (Tegenaria domestica). I suspect the latter - it's pretty slim and the legs are pretty long for a wolf spider. These are harmless spiders that hang out in basements and such, and make a sheet/funnel-web, like the common grass spiders you see in bushes and tall grass. I'd bet it's a male wandering around looking for a female's web.

Hey, that's Bob!

Er, no. Well, it doesn't seem to be a Brown Recluse, so that one you don't need to squish.
