It may be possible to turn it sideways so that it could fit in the narrow window. Two things to check on see if you can find a manufactures phone number call to find out or check around to see if they make one for your window.

No, they aren't built to be tipped. Keep searching, there used to be units made narrow to fit in windows and the extra piece that goes over the top to fill in the rest of the window.
Another option is to go through the wall like you see in motels.
Another option is the freestanding AC that sits inside your room on the floor with only the hose (like a dryer hose) going out the window. These units run about $399.

water produced by cooling wont run out of the unit properly turnes sideways. You need a carpenter to cut a hole in the side of your house from outside to the sheetrock inside frame around the opening and have the electrician run a A/C power wire so you can run a large unit with 240 volts. Then place a real cool blaster in the hole. Buy a magnetic cover to wrap around the A/C unit to close off the outside of the A/C in the winter. Good luck

You might have to remove the window to put the airconditioner in. Don't put it in sideways! It is not made to go in every position.

The compressor has to sit upright so that the oil in it circulates properly. If you tilt it on it's side, the oil will not be distributed properly and it will burn up the compressor. They do make airconditioners that don't need to fit in a window-they are kinda pricey tho. They also make ones to fir crank out windows also. But they are hard to find.

Bad idea-
Find a model that sits on the floor, has a duct system you can route to your window and a drip reservoir.
It will look like this, but you might be able to find a cheaper one.

No, the intake has to stick out and the blower has to face in. Unless you were to rig up some sort of duct system?
