The valiant knight with all of his upstanding morals and never ending ideals. Will never die but take many shapes and forms as to change with the times. Who is it now? Maybe the common soldier. Who fights the war for his country. Maybe the person who devotes his or her life to helping people in starving and war ridden countries. Maybe the one Who writes the story to inspire others to do good. But whatever the form the great hero's of are past take in the modern world one thing is for sure they will be there.

The knights are not all gone but they are very hard to find. The dragons have not been slain, only taken on different form. The heroes have become hard to find and love, poetry, and kindness is looked upon with cynicism. But let's not lose hope. Perhaps one day things will be better again.

The knights are over in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Djibouti, Philippines, Columbia, and Darfur slaying more dragons and saving damsels and children in distress.

The knights are working in Homeland Defense, for the FBI, the Coast Guard, INS, US Marshals, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms, the DEA, the Secret Service.

The knights are working in your local police, sheriff's department, campus police, nuclear & utilities security, mall security, and other law enforcement roles.

The knights are prison guards, emergency services dispatchers, ambulance crews, ER personnel, doctors who serve not for the money but because they care about people, about life.

The knights rescue wounded wildlife, stray and abused animals, lost children, confused people, special people, victims of crime and accidents.

The knights serve in the fire departments, ride the range guarding the cattle which will eventually end up on your plate at dinner; they watch over forests, do wilderness rescue, help people with vehicles broken down on the side of the road.

No there still are heroes. They are wherever you look. If you are really looking, and not sitting at home wishing you could see.

No, they still exist for many of you. Alas, for some of us, our knight is slain and the promises once made are but a memory.

Lady fair,
both are there
in the hearts of a few
with the naves they still duel.
Bringing love
as on the wing of the dove
the life of olde
has not been sold.
