I just saw the story on Yahoo and am curious about mine.
It is first edition, but i no longer have the book sleeve.(I got the book when i was like 12 or something A.K.A. i was stupid).
Also because i did not have the book sleeve, the cover got kind of beat up.
Most of the pages are fine, and surprisingly no rabbit ears.

it reads:

"11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 9/9 0/0 01 02
Printed in the U.S.A. 37
First American edition, October 1998"

Also on the spine it does not say "year one" on it.
red spine, purple the rest.


wondering how much it would go for, probably not much.

It is definitely a first edition, because of the lack of "Year 1".

Unless it's in mint condition, you'll never get much of a price for it, even if you save it for 50 years.

So, probably not much, especially since the REAL first edition was printed in Britian as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

Signed books are worth far more, since JK Rowling doesn't sign books often. :)

Probably not much it was the first edition UK book that recently sold for thousands (see below article) and it reached that price according to the article because there were only 500 books in the run and 400 went to libraries leaving only 100 for sale. Thus they are very rare and due to the subsequent popularity and success of the series very valuable. However by the time it was printed in the US it was already popular and print runs were much larger.

500-1000 were printed in England. I wouldnt rush to your local goodwill - blueeyedbooksel...

That's a comment on the Amazon Seller Board - those are the ones going for the BIG bucks.

You can keep looking. And not having a dust jacket is going to hurt, even should it be collectible. Would be nice, though.

And you need a first edition, first printing to really be special. :) I'm not sure from what you typed if this is a complete number line. The 37 next to U.S.A., hm...I don't have one to compare it to.

Total fake cuz every book says what year! Well does it have the same words of all the others? Cuz if it did a person who has just discovered it and wants there own would prob pay 5 bucks
