JKR has stated without question that Dumbledore is dead. But she also pointed out that he *does* have a portrait... so he's dead, but not gone!!

It is thought that the bartender at the Hog's Head is Dumbledore brother. The bartender's name is Aberforth and it has said in the book that Dumbledore HAD a brother named Aberforth but that he was killed. He was also a member of the Order. But I doubt that there are really two Dumbledores since Aberforth and is describe as short and plump if I remember correctly while Dumbledore is tall and scrawny. Good theory, though I doubt it.

I believe that the bartender could have been Dumbledore simply eavsdropping on the kids (who said a profound wizard like him can't eavsdrop?!), but I do not think that there is (or was) two Dumbledores. It would be wonderful if there was, but I highly doubt it. J.K.Rowling probably thought that it would make an interesting twist in the plot to take someone Harry needed so much away, escpecially when he just descovered what a Horcrux was. Oh, by the way, do you know who R.A.B. is?!

No, there is only one Dumbledore. Dumbledore is not still alive, comfermed by J.K. Rowling about 6-8 months ago. I know it's hard to belive but, it's true... If you have any questions about Harry Potter E-mail me and I'll probably know the answer!

Im pretty sure that there is only one dumbledore and the bartender was indeed his brother with some funky name that I can't spell. I think so anyway.

The bartender is Aberforth Dumbledore.
JK Rowling answered it on her website http://www.jkrowling.com
"Why is the barman of the Hog’s Head vaguely familiar to Harry? Is he Dumbledore’s brother?
JKR: Ooh—you are getting good. I was quite proud of that clue. That is all that I am going to say. Well yes, obviously. I like the goat clue—I sniggered to myself about that one."

Dumbledore said that it takes dark magic to hoodwink objects (the goblet in book 4). That would mean that if he was still alive, he would have to hoodwink the portrait in his office and the enchantments that allowed McGonagal to enter. Dumbledore would not do dark magic, so therefor he is dead. I trust Jo's opinion when she says he is definitely dead.

Idk if he could "escape death" cuz it would still b 2 people! But that is a good theory and i think they could be brothers! But i have also heard that maybe snape mumbled a contor curse against avada cadava without speaking it and then he apparated to the ground and he undid the spell! Cuz dumbledore never undid the spell. so idk but it could be true but, i think he isnt dead but just wants voldy to think he is dead so he could sa oh i have a better chance at harry so then dumble comes and kills him. (my theroy) but that would be unlikely But i think they could b bros! And my mom always saaid maybe dombuldore is harrys grampa?

I think that he's just dead. I think most people(myself included) can't accept the fact that he's dead(kinda like Tupac).
