There are so many and it is extremely hard to choose.
The choice is really dependent on what you want on your phone. I found that each one will have good points and bad points. Not one has everything I want.
First , go for the styles. Out of a list of maybe 5 to 7 phones that you wouldnt mind owning, run through their features.
Features that i found important:
1. Durability- some die the minute you accidentally drop them.
2. 2 gigabytes of music? , video? Is that important or radio FM
3. Ringtunes. How easy to download new ones
4. Internet and Bluetooth technologySome cell phone providers have puny internet connections.
5. GSM capability. Roaming? How good is the network coverage. Can you take it with you when you travel. You must have quadband, no question about that.
6. Camera. Must be easy to use and easy to download files.
7. As for brands-- Sony Ericcson, Nokia F series, Samsung, LG. Line them all up . If everything is all equal, find the best priced value in terms of monthly charges.

It depends what carrier u have. If u have sprint try the sanyo m1 or samsung upstage. If u have verizon try the krzr, env, or chocolate. If you have t-mobile get a sidekick or the nokia 95. If you have cingular try the blackjack or wait for the iPhone. If you have t-mobile try an unlocked phone. Personally i like the chocolate it has everything and its only 99.99 now!

whatever you do dont get verizon chocolate. it sucks. it is too sensitive and the pictures dont turn out very good. and when you put music on it, you can only put 18 songs! there is a side button that you can press to unlock it and if it is in your pocket, and that button gets pressed it will automatically call people! it is a very crappy phone. haha.
