You're right--we're all too quick to dismiss the feelings of people that are still in High School or younger. The reason that I wouldn't advise someone under 18 to get too into love is because I saw how hard it was on me in my 20s and 30s. Had I put more effort on school and enjoying life, I would have many more options right now.
I think the key is to try to maintain balance. It's fine to be in love with someone, but just take things slowly. That's hard to do though, right? You mentioned hormones--they're running rampant at this young age, and there are times when you feel like you cannot control yourself. That would be fine if there were no ramifications, but there are plenty (STDs, pregnancy, broken hearts, etc.)...and so this is why I think most older people don't want the younger generation to get too involved with someone.
But you're right--you need love just as much as anyone else, and sometimes it's hard to feel that love from parents, who are only trying to steer you in the right direction.

You are correct, everyone needs love! But, I didn't TRULY fall in love until the age of 18, so I guess that is why people say that. However it is possible to fall in love in high school, I know a couple who were together all through high school and ended up getting married and are still very happy with 2 kids in college! I am with the guy I fell in love with at age 18 still, we have been together for over 4 years...I say, focus greatly on your studies but don't dismiss love if it comes your way!

I guess, most of the time the parents are too buisy to give love to their offspring.
People say "get over it" because you are still young and one day you will have a laugh about it. I sort of understand how you feel as such and i think the parents are meaning "true love". Sure you have some relationships in high school, its all good training for the real world i guess :)

Love turns sour real fast when your worried about where your next meal is coming from, especially when your stupid enough to get pregnant, or get your partner pregnant at that age. Parents are trying to protect you from your hormones. Remember love and lust are 2 different things. I was a teenage mother, my kids are almost grown, but because of my stupidity my whole family has suffered. That hormonal feeling you have now fades, but the responsibility, and consequences that comes from stupid actions never does. Whats the rush? : )

Hey kiddo - there's a good reason your elders pass on bits of experience and wisdom to you!
It's a dog-eat-dog world out there and if your head is too busy in the clouds with some girl, you'll never finish your education properly and then by the time you're 40, you'll regret never having finished your education while you're asking "do you want fries with that?"

Not all teens NEED love. some people are perfectly content living without love all their life. I know someone at my church who has never been married and is the happiest person I know. And she doesn't have a boyfriend.
