Because the best players in the world come here to play. The best players from the other leagues all come here to play at some point in their careers so why not call it the world series?? The teams may all be based in this country but the talent is clearly spread throughout the world. You may argue that Japan is better because they won the WBC, but look at how many of the guys from their play here now...The only team you could make a legitimate argument for is Cuba, since none of the guys on that team play in MLB, but that will change someday too.

The Toronto Blue Jays have won the World Series twice. They're from Canada. But it was actually named after the World newspaper (used to be call World's Championship Series), which sponsored the games between the two best teams a long time ago and the name just stuck.

The explanation is that when the term "World's Championship Series" was first used in the 1880s, baseball at a highly-skilled level was almost exclusively confined to North America, especially the United States. Thus it was understood that the winner of the major league championship was the best baseball team in the world. The title of this event was soon shortened to "World's Series" and later to "World Series".

The Toronto Blue Jays are in the MLB...last time I checked Toronto's not a city in the USA.
The MLB tries to collect the best talent throughout the world to play in the league, so the league's championship is called the World Series.

There is no country with a serious baseball league other than the U.S. and Japan. However, the teams from Japan are horrible compared to ours. Players who didn't make the major leagues here in the U.S. have been known to go to Japan and become superstars.

It's been that way for over a century.
Toronto is not in the USA. Neither is Montreal, though that ship sailed a few years ago.
And note the vast, worldwide diversity of player citizenships.

America has a melting pot and very into itself sees itself very often as the world's stage. While America is a narccistic society...its not neccessilary a bad thing. If you are a super power you have to act like one.
