That depends. Many of the private schools will give preference to legacies, but public schools generally do not.

Among schools that offer legacy advantage, the degree to which that helps varies. Some schools when presented with two equally qualified candidates will prefer to accept the legacy. However, if you are a weak applicant, your legacy preference will only go so far. In that case, pray that your parents have been generous alumni. If you're *really* weak, then hope they've got a library named for them or something.

The relationship between legacy and odds of getting is directly proportional to how many buildings there are with your name(or dads name) on them. That is the true value of legacy.
