open up the case. find the fan that blows on the processor. then pull out the cables that go to the fan. this will probably overheat the processor then when it overheats, show you wife it. then if she wants to take it to a computer shop, plug all the cables back into the fan so that it won't be noticed

Maybe your wife feels you spend too much time on the puter and not enough with her? Or she doesn't understand puters? Try spending more time with her and OFF the puter. Find things to INCLUDE her in the computing experience. Teach her 'best practices' if she doesn't already know them.
Tell her you'll let her have this puter if she lets you buy the one you want so that you'll each have your own puters. You'll be able to engage her in online games like the ones here in Yahoo! Yes, you'll have to buy a router to enable both computers to be online at the same time. Just make sure it's _*WIRED*_. Wireless is still in it's infancy and the last thing you need is your neighbors "piggybacking" off of YOUR ISP...Lord only knows what they could do that would get YOU in trouble with the Law!!!
If all that COMMON SENSE fails, then
A. Yes, your marriage is doomed.
B. You could go into your registry and delete some stuff you KNOW will keep it from booting. Only use this as a LAST resort because you WILL lose all your files when you have to have Windows re-installed on the thing!!!

well if you want to keep your data, dont kill the hard drive and remove it after the motherboard dies.
I accidentally, for real, and I'm a techie.....killed a motherboard and then 2 days later my daughter dropped another pc and killed that motherboard simply by dropping it (it wasn't securely on a table, desk or floor because I was working on it).
Anyway, the way I killed my motherboard was to remove the processor and put it back in wrong and the dang pens bent.
You could try to "find out the specs of your motherboard", then accidentally put the processor in wrong and bend some pins.
I really wouldn't suggest this method of getting a new computer because you will waste a lot of good parts. Depending on the type of computer, I could use a motherboard so if you decide to ruin something else, like the memory, hard drive, on board stuff by accidental scratching, keep me in mind for the other parts ;)
You may want to see a marriage counselor afterwards because this isn't healthy to be sneaky

find a garden snake and put it into the power supply... believe it or not this happens more than you might think.
other than that you could go to the thrift store and buy a crappy hard drive (for appearances) and pretend to upgrade your pc (while it is on) and "slip" with the (well insulated screwdriver) and short out the motherboard.
then i would go to tigerdirect.com

Put some Limburger cheese inside. When it starts to stink up the house, tell her your motherboard died and you need a new computer.

Could download any BIOS update to your computer. (if its a Dell, then download a Compaq bios update.) That should cause it not to work anymore.

Have her use it a couple of times, she'll probably break it just from shear ignorance, and download google toolbar, smiley toolbar, and viruses.
