Although British music is best all round the only exception is Jazz and Blues which are truly US.
However, have a listen to some of the US 60's groups like Love, The Doors, The Byrds, Tom Rush, and others. The Elektra record label had some brilliant music, mostly US but some British groups too.
I would recommend the 5 CD compilation Forever Changing, released by Elektra, covering 1963 to 1973.

Hmm... I'd say it's about a tie actually. America has good rock but there seems to be a British band that's just as good, if not better. Bullet For My Valentine and Dragonforce are some of the best actual musicians. But America has Audioslave, Rooney, etc. I think British indie music is better. American rap is leaps and bounds better than British rap though.

Who is the @rsehole who claims Heavy Metal for the US?
Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Deep Purple thats where it all started, in the UK.
As for the Q - its all relative to what genre. The US kicks *** at country and western but have no real concept of real Punk or Goth music.
But Frank Zappa's American and he is a God of Music.

Too broad. You have to be specific in what type. I know for a fact some british music is better than american music in some genres, but it goes vice versa too. This is way too broad to answer.

As far as rock music goes, Britain has historically turned out the best bands. The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Pink Floyd, and Black Sabbath, just to name a few.

Neither...they are just as good as each other. Music is for enjoyment not a competition to see who is better! Just enjoy what you like!

This is a stupid question... I'm sorry.
1. It is personal preference, one is not "better" except in your opinion
2. Some brit musicians are better than some US musicians, and some US musicians are better than some brits, it is silly to generalize a whole country of musicians
3. Jeez I'm just going to stop now.... I'm sorry
