Ethernet port is not working. My USB ports messed up months ago. Can't connect to DSL. Hardware issue?Options?

Can I use any of these other ports on the laptop to help me connect to DSL? Someone told me that getting a cable for one of these other (unfamiliar) ports on laptop can enable me to hook a peripheral device to the laptop, and use my USB through that. PLEASE HELP!!!!!! I hope I don't have to get the motherboard worked on.
