Trying to keep a wild box turtle as a pet is not the smartest idea on Earth for several reasons, including the detail that it is illegal in some places.

However, you gotta wonder how a turtle can impart a respiratory disease to a human when turtles cannot really cough.

Your friend is out of his skull.

The only thing I've ever heard of people getting from turtles is salmonella, never TB.

And that's not hard to avoid as long as you always wash your hands after handling.

With all the people taking box turtles out of the wild its only a matter of time before this slowly reproducing species goes bye-bye.
