We are not wanting to sell it, just add it to our scrap book. But I would like it cleaned... it was in the crack of the wooden floor.
What is the best way to clean the coin?
If you are going to tell me not to clean it, please do not leave a reply...

Your nickel is an 1896 liberty head nickel also known as a "v" nickel. The year 1896 had a mintage of 8,841,058. They were minted from 1883-1912. They were designed by Charles E. Barber.Your nickel is worth $8.00 in grade good and $15.00 in grade very good. You really shouldn't clean your nickel because the value will decrease by almost half. I hope this information helped answer your question.

Many people have this crap happen to them, and since the "dead" person doesn't seem threatening, they think it is harmless. What you have to understand is that what you are experiencing is one of Satan's fallen angels pretending to be a dead guy. No joke. They have been working ever since the fall of man to get people to believe that the dead are still alive somehow. What you need to realize is that he is not harmless. You might have some articles in your house that are allowing him access into your life. Violent, Pornographic, and Occult materials could all be responsible. You need to get rid of them. Then you need to command him in the name of Jesus to leave your house and never come back. It won't work unless you have asked for Jesus' help before hand. One thing that worries me is this. You seem to be telling us this like a anecdote, not really asking for help. Most people are scared or annoyed, and want them out. If you don't really want them gone, you might be putting yourself in danger. I am giving you a link that includes excerpts from an interview as well as from an autobiography. It is a man that encountered the supernatural and what he learned about the enemy's deceitful tricks. Please read it. Lastly, from what I have learned from my friends, never ever engage in conversation with them. They always lie, or worse tell half truths. They are SOOOO much smarter than us, so don't even start talking with them. Anyways... Here is the link.

I'm not going to tell you whether to clean or not to clean, it's all up to you. I thought perhaps you might be interested to know how much your coin is worth being uncleaned, and it's at least $20 retail in worn condition with flat details. 1896 is not a rare date, but it's not a common date either.

Toothpaste is a good idea. I don't know about leaving it overnight in coca cola because that may eat away at the actual nickel.

Any of the previous suggestions will work. We always used ketchup or kool-aid (one packet of kool-aid to two cups of water). the acid in the ketchup (or lime juice, or vinegar, or coke) is what removes the tarnish. I am afraid to find out why the kool-aid works but probably for a similar reason.

Good luck.

Leave it in a glass of Coca Cola overnight. No kidding, it will dissolve a lot of the dirt.

If you clean the coin you reduce or possible ruin the value of it. Leave it alone!

Dip it in lemon juice, and wash with a paper towel. It will look as good as new! Hope this helps!
