There are normally two different meanings:

Guys say it to "End the conversation"

Ladies say it to "Get a reaction and see how a guy feels"

What do you use this phrase for?

To tell the people I love how I feel about them. Sometimes these 3 words get over used to the point of having to meaning. But when you mean these 3 words......saying them feels wonderful, and hearing them even more so.

Are you really serious? I don't say it to get a reaction unless it's here on YA. I say it when I honestly and truly mean it any other time.

Could you tell me where you collected this info?

depends on the situation. with my ex boyfriend, i didnt really like him much but i had to stay with him because he's one of my best guy friends and i didnt want to hurt him, so i just said 'iloveyou' to end the conversation. with my current boyfriend, i sometimes say 'iloveyou' to see if he would say it back. mmmm, and other times .. i just say it because i really do love the person. although, lately, im not really sure what love is anymore ..

I use it to express myself and let my love be received by the world.

Men use it to get something, its a tool for them -- very few know how to use it -- it is actually a VERB (action is involved with loving someone -- not making love -- but doing kind things for someone other than yourself!).

Thanks for proving my point "bigpimpin69 4life"!!

just to express how I feel, even if it is to a really good friend. Why do guys tend to feel that when a girl says I Love you, it has to be all serious....

I only say this when I have the overwhelming desire to let my hubby or children know that, that is what I am feeling very strongly at the moment.

I don't use that phrase very often. I only use it when I really mean it.
In the last 17 years I have only said that to Mr. Hobo Cat., that 's my cat.

I think I say it to reassure people of my intimacy to them I think people need to hear it but I don't always mean it unless I say it to my son in that case I say it because I love him
