They tarnish some already tarnished people very badly, and open up a big can of worms when some people's health is wanting. And, secondly, they tarnish the legacy of a cherished family member badly.

What I don't understand is why she told me. Yes, I'm the shrink in the family, but she was much closer to my sis.

Any advice. My wife says let it go. But do my bros and sis have a right to know?

If you think that they have a right to know, and you think that's best then you should tell them, But if your having second thoughts Then don't do it.

If it is health related and it will effect someone(like a genetic disorder or an STD) you really need to tell the person it will effect. If it is something to do with the law and could effect someones inheritance, safety, or loss of security you should say something. If it is just name calling and reputation ruining, I would let it go.

Don't tell anyone. No good will ever come of it. Sometimes talking about bad things in a family history can only cause more bad feelings.

why bother saying anything now..it's been 2 years and no reason to open up old wounds or whatever..and if you are the shrink in the family you should know what to do and not ask here

No if she wanted them to know she wouldn't have just told you, let it go listen to your wife. What purpose would it serve is anyone in harms way if not don't cause trouble.

I write it up,seal it,stick it in a safety deposit box and leave it there for fifty years. Your descendents should know the truth but you don't want to inflict suffering on anyone alive.

Let it go,
Telling them would serve no useful purpose .

Life is to short... enjoy your family while you still have them.
always try to keep the peace..

Good Luck!

Think of the results of telling. Will it hurt or not? And does it need to be told?
