One day in the fall I was driving by a farm and saw that the farmer was feeding pumpkins to the dairy cows. These were ones that were broken or had small spots that he could not sell.
The cows seemed to be really enjoying them.

I always wondered if the things that cows eat affect the flavor of their milk.

Certain things can affect the taste of milk. We used to have a cow that would get out and go to a patch of wild garlic which she would then eat (I love garlic but wild garlic is terribly strong and tastes rather nasty). Her milk would then taste like wild garlic for 2 or 3 days afterwards.

Pumpkins however do not have this problem. We used to feed leftover pumkins to them.

Yes what cows eat can affect the flavor of the milk. Dairy farmers are actually very careful abot this. It has even been demonstrated that just exposeing cows to strong smeels for extended times can also. I doubt the pumpkins would though. Pumpkins are often grown for winter feed for livestock, good source of vitimins and calories for them.

to a certain extend it does but if you feed a cow choclate syrup it isnt gonna be choclate milk by any means, i dought that pumpkins would make the milk taste like pumpkins but i bet it would make it tast different then if a cow just ate grass or hay

lol seems like it would doesn' it. sounds yummy maybe someone should make that....lol

as for the above answer, if a mother is breast feeding and eats onions or somthing spicy , her baby can be affected by it, because that is why you are not suppose to drink while breastfeeding, it can be transferred to the child.

No.
If a mom is breast feeding and she eats a chocolate bar her milk isn't gonna be chocolate milk.
