guilty. i buoght the books for my son, thinking they would get him to read for a change... they sat in his room collecting dust for a couple of years, until finally, at the suggestion of my best friend who loves them, encouraged me to read them.

i am an avid reader, read TONS of books, have a master's degree. yet i had never read a fantasy book of any kind, prior to reading Harry Potter. i read the first 2 books in a couple of days... then onto the 3rd, then bought the remaining ones for MYSELF. they are now in MY bookshelf, not my son's.

i find them refreshing. an escape from my everyday serious life. i'll buy the new one when it comes out... now, i won't stand in line at midnight or anything... but i'll have it within the first week.

Yep I'm one, 40 years old this year and hooked. I was one of those who didn't buy into the initial hype but then the books were getting popular at my kids school but a little bit beyond they to be able to read it at that time, so I thought it would be a nice bonding thing to read a chapter a night to them. Well I read the first chapter and thought that wasn't bad the style and humour I like. Read the second chapter the next night and I couldn't wait any longer I took the book to work that night and finished it and in the morning went out and brought the next two books and began eagerly awaiting the release of goblet of fire.

Now the boys can read them themselves and all the copies are well and truly worn out and we're all hanging out for the 11th of July.

Hehehe, I actually bought the first book for ME on the advice of an elderly lady. This was right before the fourth book came out, I believe.

My son was probably about 4 or 5 at the time. I read the first two books to him and this past year, he's read them all and is rabidly awaiting the final book. (He's 10 now.)

There's a group for grownups I joined years ago. Haven't really read any of their emails in awhile but it was called "Harry Potter for Grownups" and I do think it was a Yahoo! group.

Enjoy!

I love the Harry Potter books, I am completely hooked! I have a copy reserved for when they come out. I am an adult & sometimes sometimes recieve smart *** comments from unenlightened individuals. I don't care though because I like what I like no matter what anyone thinks.

I have read OUTLOUD to my kids all of the books,, I am so excited about this last book!! when my kids were only five and six they would BEG me "just read ONE MORE CHATPER" have you seen how LONG those chapters are? I would literally read to them for hours at a time! I think adults who DONT read these books are silly,, I mean it had everything,, a story that entertains a child as young as four or any adult,, it has subtle hints and funny andedotes, it is perferct for FAMILIES,, not just kids,,
any Adult who thinks they are alone in waiting for the end is WRONG,, most of us are!

I am ten years older than my brother. He had the first one laying in the floor one day so I picked it up to see what all the fuss was about (this was about the time that everyone was trying to get it banned from schools and talking about how it was controversial and everything). I ended up finishing the book in less than 24 hours. I could not make myself put it down. Since that day I have been hooked!

I don't have kids but have recently become addicted to the Harry Potter series.
A friend of mine mentioned he was going to listen to the audio books so I figured I would do the same - see what all the fuss was about. Wish I had done it years ago!!!

I am completely hooked on them but it had nothing to do with buying them for a child, my brother said they were good so I eventually read them and loved them. I am an adult.

I'm 27. My 49 year old mother bugged me until I started reading them. I am so very addicted now. However, I just finished #6 a few weeks ago, and I am crushed! It almost makes me want to not read the last one!!!.......yeah right

No, I am one of the few who did not read a Harry Potter so far in spite of the hype. I read many other fantasies so it is not as if I don't read such books.
