I am 14 years old and I just got retainers put into my mouth at 9 AM this morning. They are hurting so bad that I do not know what to do! I have one in the top and one in the bottom. Does anyone who has retainers remember feeling like this? Is this normal? What do I do to relieve the pain at least for a little while?

I love earth science, however I am in the medical field. when your doctor gave you the retainer, did he give you a pain killer such as vikodin, or codeine? I would take that. usually you would take 1-2 every 4 hours as needed, but considering your age and depending your weight your dosage and ml may be different. I would talk to your doctor or pharmacist. maybe you should take a Motrin. at least if you do not have Rx narcotic.

Since this is the Earth Science and Geology Section I will give you the Earth Science and Geology answer. Try hitting your head with a rock. After a few minutes of doing this you will not notice the pain in your teeth. Oh, and don't ask how to get rid of the pain in your head. I will tell you in advance that it involves a rock.

You need to post in another area. This is earth science.

Post in "health".

But yes, that's normal. And don't take anything with aspirin in it if you are 14 years old...

Try some Aleve. It seems to work well for tooth/mouth pain.
