The funny thing about laptop batteries is that pretty much everything causes them to go bad. To start off they only have about 250/300 charges and discharges in them before they start to have problems. The second issue is that lithium ion battery that is not charged and uncharged regularly it will go bad.

Essentially, everything is bad for your battery and expect to have to buy a new one within 2 years unless you use it under ideal conditions. That would be to only charge it until its absolutely full, then to run the battery down until its absolutely empty.

I would guess that after a LONG time of leaving it sit on the charger and not use the battery (like, for 3 or 4 weeks) that it would make it last not as long, but you wouldn't really notice it. but after a few years, you would begin to tell that your battery isn't lasting as long as when it was new. but all batteries degrade over time, and there is nothing you can do about it. so what I do is take my laptop off the charger once or twice a week, and let the battery run till its almost dead, and then recharge it.

Good Luck!

It was true with Nickel Cad batteries. They would lose their charging ability and all that. The newer laptops have lithium ion batteries which do not suffer the same problems. It's not a problem to leave it plugged in for long periods of time. It is not good to completely discharge it frequently. In other words it's better to recharge frequently instead of waiting until it goes dead. The issue of the battery losing it's ability to charge isn't an issue with Lithium ion though.

on earlier types of lappy the battery would be affected by being left plugged in but newer ones have a far more advanced type of battery that is not affected so you can safely leave it plugged in for long periods of time, they may be affected very slightly but not enough that you would even notice. the newer materials they are made from has done away with what was called memory effect, it is good for them to let it run right down about once a month just to keep them in tip top condition

Over a long period of time (weeks) the battery will wear down. Every time you use it the battery charges and discharges a little. Best to store it away if you are going to use it plugged in for long periods.

Most newer laptops will only charge until the battery is full, and then switch to just the power cord, so it is impossible to over charge most laptop batteries in newer models. Although you should charge and discharge everyonce in a while.

shouldn't, after a while, the power bypasses the batery and just goes straight to the computer, however, if you are always plugging it in and unplugging it, the batery might think it holds a lot less power than it is capeable of. if this happens, let the battery go completely dead a couple time, then charge it up all the way.
