It is definatly a possibilty. It's difficult, but it happens. I write poetry and intend on publishing on the side. If you are looking into this career as far as money, stick with Psychology. It pays more and you would have a steady income. Writing is mostly a freelance situation, even if you are writing novels.
If the writing doesn't kick off, enjoy yourself anyway! Writing is a gift. And if it doesn't work out right away, keep trying! Good luck!

Sure. Just don't set your writing goals too high. Almost anyone can write 300 - 500 words a day and not disrupt their schedule. I did that for more than 40 years. I've retired from the work-a-day world now and things are much better for the writing, although I miss the larger income from regular work.
Remember two things: 1) Don't quit your regular job until the writing is bringing in equal to or better than the job and looks like it can only get better. 2) Write a set minimum amount every day -- weekends included -- and submit what you have written (keep trying to get something published) and don't give up. If you are a writer, you'll know soon enough because the writing will demand that you keep doing it.

"but i've hear writing doens't make a lot of money and takes a while to get out there and be succesful. "
You heard it right! Every year, nearly 2 lakh books (200,000) are published and most of them are self-published by new and struggling authors, since they can't find an established publisher. Writing the book is the relatively easy part and selling it (promoting and marketing) is the tough part. Still, life won't be fun if everything is easy! So, go for it and best wishes.

I work full-time and I'm still able to write. But then again, I was hired as a writer/editor so I write regardless.
If the passion to write a book is in you, you'll do it regardless of time constraints, rejections, failures, etc. You may never become a successful author outside your own mind, but if you're proud of what you've done and consider yourself a success, no amount of rejections or published books is going to change that.
Oh, and finally, I'd suggest working on your spelling and grammar. As an editor, I am bothered by writers who think that editors are there to serve their laziness and unwillingness to do self-editing before handing it over to a professional.

Well, if the 95% of writers who do not make a full time living off their words can hold down another job, I'm sure you can do it too. It is hard and it required dedication. Can you stick to a schedule? Can you make time to write every day, even if you have to work long hours?
If you're working an eight hour day and sleeping eight hours, there's still plenty of time left in the day!

As long as you stay commited and devoted to your job, it shouldn't be too much of a problem. As long as you are up to the challenge.
