I agree. Growing up light skin and straight hair were desired because they were close to the white standard of beauty, which is still preferred. Look at hollywood. If Beyonce and Mary J. Blige want to continue to be popular they'd better not show up nappy headed.

The is no such thing as good hair and bad hair. It is good hair if you take care of it. Bad hair is when you don't take care of it by washing, conditioning and trimming combing and brushing and so forth.
Every type of hair has pros and cons. Not all hair will hold a curl. Not all hair can be smoothed out with a flat iron. Not all hair with a frizz problem can be controlled.

The "good-hair-bad-hair" syndrome is not something that was started by white people. It is a continuous down playing of black people against black people.
This started back in the days of slavery when the white masters went in the dark of night into the cabins of the slave women and raped them. Carrying them off to the 'big house' to cook and clean and 'service the master at will' because his white wife would not be expected to trouble herself.
When the baby was born, it was allowed to live in the big house because it was the master's child and was not considered a 'darky'. This child would have hair that was silky and grew out semi-straight.
The separation of blacks began. These minor differences of different texture of hair, different color of skin (mullato) would forever cause a distance and separation of black people- the ones who were treated better, dressed better, would learn the language and style of the white masters by listening to their conversations, etc. Some even learned to read inconspicuously, vs the dark ones who worked in the field, in the hot sun, getting only the scrapes from the table.
This set the standard of how blacks would feel about their hair, their skin color, their looks for years to come. The standard for beauty would further interrupt how our society would look at black people in terms of what was considered 'beautiful' and the chase for change has been a struggle. For example - our full lips and hips were a problem (to whites) on us - but when white actresses began to have collegen injected in their lips and began to sport unnatural (for them) full lips - all of a sudden - acceptance!
Black people have had to re-learn to love themselves away from the dogma of what the media print said otherwise. There is no such thing as good or bad hair. Hair is hair. Black hair is curly because as original Africans- the hair needed to be curly to keep the sun from burning the scalp. For whites, hair needed to grow out straight because of their original heritage from the cold climates (Scandanavian) where the sun did not beat down so hard.
People need to read about cultural differences to educate themselves about each other and yet learn to embrace all cultures of people.

i'm easy skinned and my darker friends act like i'm from a different universe. They talk approximately my hair and make contact with it bi-racial hair as whether that's a foul element. the entire element is ridiculous. interior the conclusion I mark the comparable bubble that they do.

To ignorant Black people, 'good' hair is any kind of hair that isn't stereotypically 'Black'.
So, if you have nappy/kinky hair, it's "bad". If you have curly, "manageable" hair, it's considered "good". This is mostly popular with African Americans. Most other Black people don't care one way or another. I find it ironic that what other races consider "bad" hair is what some Blacks consider "good" hair.

Why is always that straight hair is "good" and curly hair is "bad?"
My hair is super straight and I'm always wishing it was curly so maybe I could do more with it. My daughter has super curly hair, it's soft and beautiful.
