I'm assuming you've already tried the classics like "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C.S. Lewis, "The Dark is Rising" series by Susan Cooper, and the "Prydain Chronicles" ("The Book of Three") by Lloyd Alexander?
You can also consider reading a bunch of books by the same author - it doesn't have the direct flow of a series, but authors sometimes use similar characters or places in their books, so it can feel like a series.
-If you haven't yet read any books by Robin McKinley, I'd definitely suggest those, they are terrific! Start with "Beauty" or "The Blue Sword", but avoid "Deerskin" until you're in college, it's very dark and you won't enjoy it yet.
-I started reading Ray Bradbury at 13, and my mind exploded with possibilities. Try his collections of short stories and the "Martian Chronicles" before you move on to "Farenheit 451".
-Jane Austen might be a bit over your head right now, but try "Pride & Prejudice" or "Emma."
-Louisa May Alcott wrote a couple sequels to "Little Women", and has many other books in the same vein.
Give them a try! If you don't enjoy any of them after three or four chapters, put it away for a few years and come back to it later - a book that bored you then may suddenly have a lot more meaning for you later. Enjoy!
p.s. Good one, maddocks, The Golden Compass series is excellent! Not sure why these are young adult books, they seem very complex and meaty to me, totally worthy of being adult books.
