Rage against the Machine...one of the band that has opened my eyes to the whole political world.
Other bands that have helped me has been Slipknot, Stone Sour, Children of Bodom, and Iron Madien. Just to name a few!

There are actually a few artists who have helped me think about the world around me. Nickelback is by far the one with the most. Songs like, "Far Away," "If Everyone Cared," "Saving Me," "Someday," and "Beleive It Or Not."
NIN has, "Hurt," and "The Day THe World Went Away." POD's "Youth of the Nation" is good. "Land of Confusion" by Disturbed also excellent for making one think--video is also good for that! A Perfect Circle has redone "Imagine" by John Lennon. Their video is amazing when it comes to making a person THINK.

"Land of Confusion" by Disturbed, I think, is about the planet today and how it will end (hopefully). It makes you look at how bad things have gone here lately.

Point is, there's many good songs and artists alike that make a person THINK.... good luck finding what you're looking for!

The Beatles all the way. John Lennon (ex-beatle) had great stuff too. read this

IMAGINE
john Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

that's great lyrics right there.

Bikini Kill has made the biggest impact on me than any other band I've ever heard.

These songs made me really think about my life and myself. You should check them out:
Star Bellied Boy
Bloody Ice Cream
Carnival
RIP
Rah! Rah! Replica!

"What I've Done" by Linkin Park has made me realize that if everyone really pitched in and helped, the world could become a better place. Poverty and racism could be eliminated. The war could end. Children wouldn't have to live in fear. We could all be happy. The video is also a great example of all the terrible things going on the world and what we can do to eliminate them.

Pink Floyd, during their years of writing songs about desperation (Dark Side of the Moon, Animals, The Wall, etc.). It is dark, but it helps me to get through things when nothing makes sense. Helps me wallow in my misery some more.
