Hi Kelly, my name is Kelly & I am a doula.
There is, as of now, no certification / licensing that is REQUIRED.
There are many certification classes to become a doula & you are more respected if you are "certified". But amounts of years & births matter more to most women.
A common misconception is that we are similar to midwives, but that is soooo not true.

As a doula, you do not perform ANY medical procedures. You do not make decisions for your mother/ woman in labor, she has to do that on her own.

A doula has certifications but in what i am not sure. I know they have to attend so many births with a trained doula before they can venture out on their own. Doulas dont deliver babies ( i hope you knew that) so they dont require any medical certification unless they are trained in massage therapy and again that is up to the discretion of the doula. She is mostly there to help ease your pain and coach you through the labor and delivery. In alot of cases, the is the relief for the spouse or partner too! I would google Doula certifcations!

yes in or to work as a professional doula you need to be trained and certified. I'm not sure what the exact laws are but I would never hire a doula that didn't get proper schooling for it. Midwifery schools nad other colleges offer these courses.

there is no state requirement to be certified, but there are certification programs that a doula can complete. I would probably choose a certified doula, just so i was sure she was up to date on medical info.

i think of mothers and fathers are extra fascinated interior the certainty which you're experienced and correctly experienced. Certifications are substantial, yet no longer needed for prepare as a doula. Having a stable training is incredibly substantial. stable doulas are supportive, compassionate and awareness of respecting a mom's decision. i individually run BAI. start Arts international is a great application, we furnish the main in-intensity doula training around. We require extra of our scholars, yet many mothers and fathers fairly relish understanding you have a deep training and awareness of start.

Yes, you can earn certification through Doulas of North America - DONA.

If you are not certified you aren't going to make as much money; as with any job, unless you have credentials that prove you were provided with some kind of professional training, you aren't going to make squat.
