A "random question" is a question asked out of the ordinary. Like a "spur-of-the-moment" question. An example would be, "why is Fred red?" that's a random question, because it nothing to do with what I was discussing previously.

Well the question you're asking right now, I have to say, is pretty random. Not many people would ask a question like that. I guess people call it random because it's not something you'd ask on a normal basis...also people say it like that because quite frankly everyone obuses the word random..lol

"Random" manner "unforeseen" to me. Yelling "Purple hippos!" with out intent is lovely unforeseen, coloring your hair three hundred specific colours could be unforeseen (and utterly cool, for my part), however I'm no longer certain thin denims could be unforeseen (except it used to be for a marriage ceremony or anything wherein so much persons could be in nicer garments).

when your talking about one subject and then outta no where you bust out with something completely off subject.

Example:
You and your friends are talking about what to wear to prom and all of a sudden one of your friends say "Does anyone know what squirrel poop looks like?"

That's a random question.
