Jeb Tyler had been the Montclair County Marshall for going on 6 years now and he loved his job.In fact, nothing made him happier than keeping Montclair's townsfolk safe and sound.

Two nights ago he had picked up "Bad ***" Johnny Mullins for creating a ruckus and thrown him in jail for the second time that week. Just 3 days before that, he had been called for a "domestic dispute" between Johnny and his live-in girlfriend Shell Sinclair. Johnny had gotten drunk and became a bit rough with her. When Jeb arrived he was all apologies, talking about how he "loved" his "Little Shelly" as he called her. His con game hadn't worked on Jeb.
"Well it's so sad to watch good love go bad, but your *** is going to spend the night in jail!!!" Jeb had told him. Of course the next day Shell insisted it was "nothing" and that he was "sorry". She was right about that. He sure was sorry!!

As Jeb watched Johnny snoring, he thought about the beautiful Shell Sinclair. His heart hammered in his chest every time he saw her. She was so delicate and fragile she looked like she could travel on the wings of a butterfly. What on Earth could an angel like her see in a devil like Johnny? She sure deserved better!

His thoughts were interrupted by a light tapping on the door.He called out his usual reply, "Keep a knockin' or come on in"
It was Shell. "I'm here to get my baby out of jail" she said. She had been down in the willow garden and picked a bunch of lillies. "These are for you" she said, handing them to Jeb. He was mesmerized by her lovliness! He blinked twice, trying not to stare. Johnny wisely said nothing and avoided eye contact when jeb let them both out. He watched the mismatched pair leaving together. " There goes Beauty and the Beast" he said, watching till they were too far away to see.

That night in his bed he was still thinking of the feel of Shells hand touching his when she handed over the flowers. He closed his eyes and began to envision himself and Shell frollicking in the willow garden........ "When I grow too old to dream, I hope I'll be dead" he thought as he drifted away into dreamland with his beautiful companion.

I was taking a walk down in th willow garden, when I saw some bugs on the wings of a nightingale. It made me think about the other day when I had to go down town to the courthouse. I went to the big door at the end of the hall and read the sign, it said keep a knockin. when they answered the door i said "i'm here to get my baby out of jail". The person who answered the door said "its so sad to watch a good love go bad."

Down in the willow garden, I sat waiting for my baby. She didn't show, so I went round to her place. I banged on the door, and a voice said "keep a-knocking like that & I'll call the cops. I kept banging shouting out "it's so sad to watch good love go bad." The cops arrived & I was arrested.and stuffed in jail. I thought I'll be in here when I'm too old to dream, but I heard a voice at the desk "I'm here to get my baby out of jail".
"Sorry honey," she said. My heart flew away on the wings of a nightingale, singing as it flew. Hope this helps.
