The #1 overall picks in the Draft for the past ten years
Tim Duncan
Elton Brand
Kenyon Martin
Yao Ming
LeBron James
Dwight Howard

I obviously omitted guys like Kandi man and Kwame
Ranking them in top 5 would also be fine too

1. Tim Duncan - GREAT player. Top 5 in the sport.
2. LeBron James - Also great but behind Timmy
3. Dwight Howard - Developing into a great player. He will be one of the league's top stars soon.
4. Yao Ming - Very good center. Has had trouble staying healthy & winning, but you can't argue his skills.
5. Elton Brand - Very underrated star. He carries the Clippers & gets no credit for it.
6. Kenyon Martin - Solid player, but not at the level of the others.

You did right to ommit Kandi Man and Kwame, they're bums, sounds harsh but its true, according to NBA standards anyway. But what ranking system are you using, 1-10, or do you want me to rearrange this list you have from the best on down?

1. Timmmaaaahhhh
2. Lebron James
3. Yao Ming
4. Elton Brand
5. Dwight Howard
6. I wouldn't have even put Kenyon Martin on this list if I were you.

One and right now actively the greatest power foward/center
Elton Brand is a great player with his stats showing it
Kenyon Martin is not all that or maybe it is the injuries
Yao Ming is not even in my top five centers, he can not even win a championship or pass the first round of the playoffs with Tracy McGrady
LeBron James has a legendary career by the time he retires
Dwight Howard is the nba's future big man. Talk about ups.

1.Tim Duncan
2.LeBron James
3.Dwight Howard
4.Elton Brand
5.Yao Ming
6.Kenyon Martin

#1 Tim Duncan (a lottery choice and a lucky bouncing ball all due to a bad back and broken left foot which kept David Robinson out basically the entire 1996-97 NBA regular season which led the 1996-1997 Spurs to a 20-62 record and to the #1 draft choice in the 1997 NBA draft)

Duncan - 10 year NBA career (during the past 10 years, Tim Duncan has led the Spurs to the best winning percentage in that ten year period of any single team franchise from the four major team sports played in America and Canada (MLB, NBA, NFL, or NHL))
Duncan - 4 NBA rings (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007)
Duncan - 3 NBA Finals MVP awards (1999, 2003, 2005)
Duncan - 2 regular season NBA MVP awards (2002, 2003)

I am unaware of Brand, Martin, Ming, the 22 year old James (as the 4 year NBA veteran LeBron is no longer an 18 year old; although, the media forgets this fact that LeBron is no longer 18 years old), or Howard winning any of these awards.

A 20 year old Magic Johnson won a NBA ring and a NBA Finals MVP award as a rookie.

There are certain players like a 20 year old rookie Magic Johnson who won his first NBA ring in his first NBA season while it took Tim Duncan until Duncan's second year in the NBA for Duncan to win his first NBA ring in 1999 and for Duncan to win his first NBA Finals MVP award in 1999.

At this point in 2007, it is obvious that Duncan is a cut above over any #1 pick in the first round over the last ten years.

Duncan has won two NBA rings with one guaranteed NBA Hall of Famer in David Robinson in 1999 and in 2003; however, no clear future NBA Hall of Famer has been on the 2005 and 2007 NBA champions Spurs led by Duncan other than Duncan.

In this era of free agency, repeating has become more difficult. In Bill Russell's 13 year NBA career and run at 11 NBA rings in 12 NBA Finals, Russell only had 44 teammates during that 13 year period. In the current era of free agency, Tim Duncan in his 10 year NBA career, Duncan has already had 50 teammates while winning his 4 NBA rings.

This is why I separate Tim Duncan from the list and rank him as #1 as the others listed above have yet to show their NBA "potential".

Former NBA head coach Hubie Brown defines "potential" as "not doing what you are supposed to be able to do".

Duncan has lived up to his potential in the NBA. Duncan is still in his prime, so Duncan may add to his long list of NBA honors.
