WWE® Shocked At Latest Developments In Benoit Tragedy, Concerned By Sensationalistic Reporting
STAMFORD, Conn., June 26, 2007 –
World Wrestling Entertainment is stunned and saddened by the details released by local authorities concerning the double homicide-suicide involving Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son, Daniel.
However, WWE is concerned with the sensationalistic reporting and speculation being undertaken by some members of the media following the press conference held by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and the District Attorney. During the press conference, the investigating authorities made the following points, all of which run contrary to the media speculation that "roid rage" was a factor in the senseless murders and suicide:
1. The authorities stated that all drugs found in the house were believed to be legal prescriptions.
2. Steroids were not, and could not, be related to the cause of death (asphyxiation). Authorities had no factual basis to speculate as to Benoit’s state of mind, and rightly did not do so.
3. Toxicology tests have not even been completed, so there is no current evidence that Benoit even had steroids or any other substance in his body. In that regard, on the last test done on Benoit by WWE's independently administered drug testing program, done on April 10, 2007, Benoit tested negative.
4. The physical findings announced by authorities indicate deliberation, not rage. The wife's feet and hands were bound and she was asphyxiated, not beaten to death. By the account of the authorities, there were substantial periods of time between the death of the wife and the death of the son, again suggesting deliberate thought, not rage. The presence of a Bible by each is also not an act of rage.
5. WWE strongly suggests that it is entirely wrong for speculators to suggest that steroids had anything to do with these senseless acts, especially when the authorities plainly stated there is no evidence that Benoit had steroids in his body, pending the toxicological reports, and that they had no evidence at this time as to the motive for these acts.
WWE is continuing to monitor the ongoing investigation being conducted by local authorities.

I am! I grew up watching wrestling and it was good fantasy entertainment even if it was fake. They had some awesome athletes also and some of the stuff they would do was unbelievable. It takes a lot of strength to lift and press a 250 lb guy over your head.
However honoring someone after they executed their own son like the WWE did last night tells me that it is time to turn it off. While Benoit was one of my favorites they should have just done a quick announcement and left it at that and people would have learned from the news and inter net what happened. Honoring him was not appropriate and I dare say if he had killed one of the McMahon's young children or grandchildren they certainly would not have honored him.

I'm not they did the right thing by stopping the "who killed Mr McMahon" storyline. maybe it would have been a little better if they had stopped it when Sensational Sherri died but they did the right thing when they lost a talented employee who deserves to go into the Hall of fame i have no reason for stopping watching it. i stopped watching Smackdown the week after Eddie died
my theory on why Chris Benoit did this is that he was miserable and depressed and had been that way for a long time, in fact since Eddie died and he didn't see the doctor about it because of his schedule I think he did it because he wanted to be with Eddie in Heaven and he killed his wife and son because he didn't want them to suffer a life without him.

I didn't like the Mcmahon storyline about the limo, curious how it would have played out & i was bored with where it was going. I watch it for the women & when the Riches was on i put it in a small picture in picture truthfully ive been bored with it for several years its just a old habit to see whats going on.

I won't it is horrible that we lost another great wrestler and entertainer, but it was bad timing. Even McMahon practically admitted wrestling stuff is fake to pass the event on. I won't stop watching WWE. Steroids killed that family not Mr.McMahon. Yes, he wouldn't pay for health care but the Superstars are not infants they know there are consequences to their actions if they didn't want to take roids they wouldn't have.

All these people talking about they love and will miss this guy that just killed 3 ppl including himself and a child. Straight up, screw that freaking ******!!! You should not be looked at in a positive light if you kill children. I'm sorry. What, are we going to honor R Kelly when he fries for sleeping with minors?

I will never watch it again....been a 30 plus year viewer
regardless of how he was at his job, which is what wrestling is, he killed his family. How any human being can say how great a man he was is incredible. I watched last night WWE and saw interview after interview about what a great man he was and how he loved his kids......for egads...folks he killed one of his kids! If he had simply killed himself, sure i would not comment on this...but he killed his family....and to think even the WWE (which I am sure they knew what had happended by showtime last night) Had this 3 hour show dedicated to a man who killed his family.....what has this country come to? I have watched wrestling (all differant areas of the world) since the late 1960,s and anyone remember pedro morales? well thats how long I have loved the sport....

Hell even Hulk Hogan testified before the Supreme Court about Vince's encouraging his Wrestler's to use roids to make them more succesful.
Nancy why didn't you leave Chris sooner so you could've saved yourself and your baby boy.
