The time zone that the speaker is currently physically in. If a football game is being played at 2:00 pm local time that means 2:00 Chicago time. So...that would be 1:00 pm for us folks in the Eastern time zone.

Time zones are based around the concept of Greenwich mean time. Greenwich in London is in the middle zone and the world is sliced into different time zones. Running East across the world from Greenwich + 1 hours for each time zone crossed and West around the world - 1 hours. There're approximately 24 time zones (not every place on the planet recognizes the system) and you currently exist in one of them - that's local time.

"Local" time is the time of where the speaker of the term is. For example, a reporter in London might say "it was at 6pm local time" meaning London, as a courtesy to those of us on other parts of the planet where there are hours of difference in time zones.
