My cousin is about to go to Amsterdam for a year. She's around 5'11", and in the U.S. that is very tall for a woman. I've been looking up random stuff about the Netherlands and Amsterdam, and I read something that said women and men in Holland are generally tall. Are there a lot of women there around the same height as my cousin? Just curious...

Yes, the Dutch are very tall, probably many women there are the same height as your cousin. I read in a book published a few years ago that the Netherlands boasts the tallest average height of any nation in the world. The average height for a Dutch male was 6'2'', so the average height for females there is probably 5'8'' - 5'9''. That book is several years old so the average height might be a smidge higher by now. I'm 6'6" and spent a year over there, and didn't feel quite as tall as I do in the states. In other words, she'll fit right in in Amsterdam!

She will not 'stand out in a crowd' due to being too tall.
Esp. in more crowded areas.
The Netherlands is a mixture of cultures (sometimes clashing) with various heights.
I know a couple of very short people, and very tall ones, and lots in between.
Myself, i`m 6'3" or thereabouts.
If she wants to really feel tall - she ought to visit some kindergartens :D
Otherwise - just go an enjoy.

People from the Netherlands are generally tall. Most of my wife's family is over 6 feet tall, including some of the women. There are a lot of foreigners walking around in Amsterdam so they don't seem like giants there. I think she will still be on the tall side for a woman though.

Dutch people seem to be taller than other european in general. Probably because they ride bicycles
and climb stairs everyday. And It's because the country is so flat. Therefore anything taller than a Dutch pancake will appear tall.
But yes the young generations seems growing and growing like asparagus....
The average Dutch man measures 184 cms - or just over 6 feet, and the average Dutch woman measures 170.8 cms or just over 5 foot 7 inches.

I´m Dutch and I´m 5´8 tall. It´s not considered very tall around here. She will blend in just fine!

No worries! Believe it or not, the Dutch people are the tallest in Europe.
