Weasels are mammals belonging to the family Mustelidae, the same family ferrets (Mustela putorius furo) belong to. The name "weasel" was originally applied to only one species from this family, the European Least Weasel (Mustela nivalis). There are now a number of other species also classified as "weasels" and the term is often used when referring to all mustelids. Technically, however, not all mustelids are actually weasels. Stoats, two species of mink, polecats and ferrets (which are believed to be descended from the polecat) are among those that are not. Weasels are not fancy ferrets and ferrets are not fancy weasels. They are, however, related.

As for "going pop" (yes, they actually do "go pop"), this is a common behavior in ferrets as well as some other members of the mustelid family, particularly the stoat. It's referred to as the "weasel war dance" and signifies great excitement.

I have owned both rats and ferrets and find them both equally as entertaining and fun to look after. the main point i'd think about is the fact that you already have a guinea pig as the ferret would probably kill it if it ever got half the chance, so just be aware of that. the good think about ferrets is that you can harness train them, which is really fun. but rats are just as fun too, I build obstacle courses for mine :) so yeah, i'd say the main thing to consider would be the ferret near the guinea pig, you don't want any nasty accidents.
