Of course you still have to pay, they are giving you 30 days notice to leave but you think you can just stay there for free since they asked you to leave. No way to "show you a copy of the law" since I have no idea where you are located, but call up landlord tenant affairs for your area and they can probably show you the law. Still, its just common sense that you will have to pay for the place for the time you are renting it.

To take your example to another venue suppose you went to a restaurant near closing time, ate your meal and then sat around until they asked you to leave (since they are closing) you think you can then say to them you don't have to pay the bill since they asked you to leave (and then try asking them to show you the law - they'll probably show you the shotgun they keep behind the counter instead).

The 30 day notice means you are getting the boot. You still have to pay for that time, regardless of the state you are in. Getting evicted is not your landlord giving you a free-ride. Many renters will have paid their last month's rent in advance, so there is no need to pay that again once you get the 30 day notice, if you prepaid your last month. Don't trash the place, or you'll forfeit your security deposit.

Yes, you have to pay the rent until your tenancy/occupancy ends, on a full month's basis. You are not allowed to use your security deposit as 'last month's rent'. If you can tell me the state you are in, I will show you the law, since it is the law in all fifty states.

In some states the landlord has 30 days after the end of the lease to return the deposit or provide a written accountability of why some or all of the deposit is being kept.

just plug in you question in yahoo with your state and you will have a better answer if you don't get it on here
