You have to burn 3500 calories more than you consume to lose one pound. It would depend on how many calories you were burning per lap and how many calories you were eating a day. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week.

there is no weight loss "formula" except one. reduce your caloric intake and increase your caloric usage. the larger difference between the two, the faster the weight loss.

i've seen people take up swimming and actually gain weight because they don't change their eating habits. (i.e. eat whenever i'm hungry) swimming WILL make you hungry, which will cause people to eat more between meals. they justify this by saying "i'm swimming" but in reality they are eating even more than before which offsets the gain from swimming.

one thing is for sure, you will be in better shape, regardless, but in order to truly lose weight, you have to at the very least keep your calorie intake the same if not lower.
